(The R.A.C., Rossville Athletic Complex, Rossville, Georgia) – The all-freshmen Lady Cats Women’s Volleyball squad from Georgia Northwestern wraps up their NJCAA pilots season with a “Pack The R.A.C.” night on Monday, October 15.

The final home match of the season will see Oakwood University come to the Rossville Athletic Complex (R.A.C.) in a rematch of a September 29 contest in Huntsville, Alabama. “They had a packed gym and a loud crowd and our girls were in it from the start,” said Georgia Northwestern Head Women’s Volleyball Coach Carrie Powell of the closely-contested four-game loss. “We want to return the favor on Monday.”

Powell is asking the high schools from which her squad hails to come out to the season-ending match to show their support of the program.

The 2012 Lady Cats consist of Alysa Daniel (LFO), Siouxanne Hawkins (LaFayette), Kristine Huskey (Battlefield Parkway Christian Academy), Fallon Larmon (LaFayette), Candice McClain (LaFayette), and Kayla Pierce (Gordon Lee).  Powell is a former all-region player from Ridgeland High School, as well as an all-conference standout for Georgia Northwestern during her college career.

The Lady Cats Women’s Volleyball program took a year off last year in preparation for the pilot season in the NJCAA this year, as well as to provide recruiting time for the 2013 campaign. “When I came on board, we were pretty much in a position to play with the hand we were dealt,” said Powell of her early August 2012 hiring. “We have a solid team who can really get after the ball. However, we are looking for strong hitters and have been having a good experience so far with the early stages of recruiting for next season.”

Georgia Northwestern (1-12) carries maybe one of the toughest schedules in NJCAA Division III. And, when you consider that the Lady Cats are made up of exactly six student-athletes, none over five-foot-seven, the two-month trek seems even more treacherous. The dates for the two-year program included two matches with each of the four-year powerhouse programs from Bryan, Covenant, and Oakwood University.

“It is what it is,” said Powell. “We have great young women working hard right now to make sure we have a good foundation for recruiting and a good run in 2013. They are really clawing their way to every point we win. We make no excuses. We get what we earn. Nothing more.”

Georgia Northwestern athletic programs compete in the N JCAA’s Region XVII and awards all students free admission with student i.d. The Lady Cats will open the match with Oakwood at 6 p.m., Monday Night, at the R.A.C.  The season wraps up on the road at Welch College in Nashville, Tennessee in a tri-match between Welch, Georgia Northwestern, and Victory College on October 19.
