“Georgia Northwestern Men’s Head Basketball Coach David Stephenson talks with his team at the half of Saturday’s game versus host Welch College in the Welch College Invitational in Nashville, Tennessee this past weekend.”

(Nashville, TN) – It was a tale of two halves and two sharpshooters Saturday as a pair of 5-foot-11 guards, Georgia Northwestern’s Hunter Ivester (Trion) and Welch College’s Jake Manning, would hold their own shootout in Nashville, Tennessee.

The freshman Cat from Trion, Georgia would shoot lights out in the final round of the Music City tournament at Welch College. A perfect seven-of-seven, which included three-of-three from beyond the arc, would land him 17 first-half points. It was a performance that would help the Cats secure a five-point lead at the half, 38-33.

However, it was another guard in Welch junior Jake Manning who would go toe-to-toe with Ivester dropping 27 points on the day to help Welch make a second-half surge and secure a home-court win over Georgia Northwestern 82-74.

Manning’s second-half shooting would help the Flames open the last period with a 17-4 run before Georgia Northwestern Men’s Head Basketball Coach David Stephenson would call a time-out at the 14-minute mark. The sideline speech would help mount a comeback of their own as the Cats as the pace would speed up quickly as full-court pressure and interior shooting would help knot things up at 61-all with just nine minutes to play.

The Flames would slowly pull away as they would build a seven-point lead with one minute to play. With 31 seconds left on the clock, freshman Tavish Reynolds (Sonoraville) would lock-in for a three-pointer to cut the lead to four. But that’s as close as the Cats would get as Georgia Northwestern would fall to 1-3 on the young season.

The Cats will next be in action Tuesday night in Cleveland, Tennessee as they take on Lee University JV in a non-region game at 7:30 p.m. eastern. This is a first-time match-up between the two colleges.
